Upcoming Events

Hello Sweetie!

There are several upcoming events in which I am participating in and I'm very excited.  First up, on March 1st, is M. Pax's Back to the Future Bloghop.

Premise:

You're up before dawn on a Saturday when the doorbell rings. You haven't brewed your coffee so you wonder if you imagined the sound. Plonking the half-filled carafe in the sink, you go to the front door and cautiously swing it open. No one there. As you cast your eyes to the ground, you see a parcel addressed to you ... from you.

You scoop it up and haul it inside, sensing something legitimate despite the extreme oddness of the situation. Carefully, you pry it open. Inside is a shoebox -- sent from ten years in the future -- and it's filled with items you have sent yourself.
What's in it?

Next is a bloghop hosted by the Ninja Captain himself, Alex J. Cavanaugh

March 18, 2013

All you do is go to Alex's blog, sign up on the Linky thing and then write a post that lists your top ten movies.  That was easy!

Finally, I have laid out my plan for April 2013's Blogging From A-Z Challenge.

Come and join the fun!  For more information, please click here, A-Z Challenge..

Take care,
Chary

Panel Entries for Elise and Michelle's Blogging Anniversary

This is my entry for the blogging anniversary giveaway hosted by Elise and Michelle.  This is my fun and silly story.  Enjoy!

Emily: "Wait, don't leave me!  You promised!"

Madeline: "I did not!  Run faster, the wind is picking up."

Emily: "If I go any faster, I'll twist my ankle.  Okay, here I goooooooooooooooooo!"
(Emily makes it by a millisecond and actually twists her ankle on the rope.)

Emily:
"Darn it!  Hold the rope still, it's slapping me in the cheek.   Seriously!  This day can't get any worse."

Madeline: "I don't know why I travel with you.  You're a train wreck waiting to happen!"

Emily: "Are you going to stand there complaining or do me the honour of helping me in the balloon basket."

Madeline: "Oh yeah, I guess I should do that."

CV: Captain Vomit here to save the day!

Emily: "Really, now you get here.  After Madeline has hauled me into the basket.  Everybody!  Let's pop the champagne because Captain Vomit is here! "  {sarcastically}

Madeline: "We don't need any help go away!  Buzz off!  You're going to screw up the balloon."

CV: "Oh no!  I'm caught in a balloon tango!  Blast these hurricane force winds!  Argh!  Argh!  Oh crap!"

Madeline: Geronimo!!!!!!!!

Emily: I hate getting wet!  My ankle hurts!  I hate getting wet!  Dammit, this blows!

Madeline:  "OMG!  We made it.  Oh sacred hallow ground.  Muah!  I love you!"

Emily: "You have some green slime and grey mud in your hair.  Kissing the ground isn't sanitary either."

Madeline: "I don't care!  I'm alive!"

CV:  *something unintelligible*

Emily:  "Dude, you need a doctor."

CV: *mumbles*

Emily:  "Madeline, we should get him some help or something."

Madeline:  "Where's the car?"

Emily:  "This way, let's go. He'll be alright."

Teaser Tuesday: The Between

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. I found this great weekly event via C. M. Brown.  Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Here is my Teaser for today:

"Hilton felt he couldn’t hold his breath anymore, and the water mocked him all around. It filled his ears, his nose, and finally his mouth, and his muscles began to fail him. It was then, just as he believed his entire fifty-pound body would fill with water, that he felt an arm around his waist."
Due, Tananarive (2011-12-13). The Between (p. 6). Harper Perennial. Kindle Edition.
This book is part of my book club at work and I am really enjoying it so far.  Hope you enjoyed the teaser and will want to read more.  Happy reading!

Musing Mondays: A-Z April 2013 Challenge

I'm really excited about this A-Z Challenge.  I attempted them in the past and never really pulled through to the end.  Okay, I abysmally failed after the first week.  Like a paradigm shift, I realized where I went wrong- I didn't PLAN AHEAD.  I don't have an explanation why nor do I even understand how this incredibly essential component of a month-long bloghop eluded me for so long.

However, this has been remedied.  So far, I have decided on the theme, drabbles and photographs.  By doing this now, there will be more time for me to visit blogs in April.

Vampire Bites Blog Hop: Fatal Love

Edvard Munch, The Vampire

"Don't go," Savina whispers into Edvard's ear.  "I need you so desperately tonight," licking her lips seductively.

"I must go, my love.  I am due back by midnight or they will notice I am gone," pleads Edvard.

"I suppose, if you must go.  I was just hoping that you could keep me company, just a little longer still," Savina charmingly implores him.

"I guess a few moments will not matter," Edvard succumbing to her whimpers.

Savina welcomes him with open arms and as Edvard lays his head on her breast, she lovingly and voraciously pierces his throat with her incisors.

Homeownership, Cats and Bloghops

So this Thursday is Valentine's Day and I am not really excited.  I'll be in school that night (Tuesdays and Thursdays this semester).  No, I don't have a gift for my boo.  Yes, I did buy hubby and the children chocolates.  No, I did not buy the kids gifts either. So Valentine's this year, pretty much blows.

However,  I am excited because we will be closing on the house soon.  I have locked in my rate for the loan, filed most of the paperwork necessary for appraisal, title search- check, survey- check, other half of down payment- almost check (waiting for my tax return), closing costs and seller's concession fee- check.  So it is real!  I will be a new homeowner this month!  Yay!

On a sadder note, I had to let my cat go.  Chinwu, the family cat for the last seven years, has a habit of marking his territory.  Unfortunately, in the new house, there will be carpet.  My current residence is all tile and the markings can easily be cleaned using pet odor remover.  The new home will be more difficult to remove the cat urine.  My son took Chinwu last week to a pet rescue center.  They do not euthanize.  I hope that Chinwu will find a family that will love him and care for him as we did.  Miss you booboo!

This week, I will be participating in Jolie Du Pre's Vampire Bloghop.  Come and join the fun!

Free Friday: NY Comic Con 2013 Costume

I know it is a little early for Comic Con, takes place in October, but who cares.  I am already thinking about what my costume will be.  Let me take a step back.  Last year, I attended with my husband, daughters, sister and nieces.  In the photo above, from left to right,

  1. My daughter Ayanna was Yuki Vampire Knight.
  2. My niece Hanna was Link from The Legend of Zelda.
  3. My daughter Zionne was Frankie Stein from Monster High Dolls.
  4. My niece Hailey was Princess Zelda.
  5. My niece Heaven was Princess Zelda.
  6. Below, I was a vampire.
  7. My husband, Gerald was Blade.
  8. My sister, Tamika, who refused to take a picture, was Link.

So now on to this year's costume.  I have lately become overly interested, insert obsessed, with Doctor Who.  I love watching the show since its reappearance in 2005.  However, because of school, family and work, I have not been able to watch each season in it's entirety.  I will endeavor, through streaming on Netflix, to watch every episode of the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctor.

Now, Doctor Who has had several companions throughout the years.  The most recent is Clara Oswin Oswald.  She is a wonderfully vibrant young woman who seems to keep reappearing throughout time, on the same timeline!  I am going to enjoy trying to figure out how this anomaly evolved.  Below is the costume that I endeavor to put together, perhaps something comparable, so that for this year's Comic Con- I am Oswin.  :D

A Nice Glass of Wine

Sometimes, all I want is nice glass of cool wine at night.  I don't drink very often since I was diagnosed with diabetes.  I don't even drink socially.  Perhaps, this is why I rarely go to the bar on Fridays.  Maybe, this is why my bottle of white zinfandel sits in the refrigerator unopened and untouched.   Perchance, this is why I don't visit my friends for a "drink."

Well, at least I won't go out like my father did, on dialysis and limited to 10 ounces of fluids per day.

But . . . sometimes, I just want a nice glass of wine.

Floating in Space

Floating in Space

I often wonder what it would be like to be weightless in space.  No up, down, left or right.  Just my body in space.  Looking out of the cupola, pondering the mysteries of the universe as I look upon the great blue sphere that is our home.  Thinking about life in other solar systems, galaxies, and the vast beyond.  Reflecting upon the infinitesimal protozoan and all of it's homo sapien analogous organs.  Space truly is the final frontier.

I want to go to space.  Perhaps in that vacuum, I would not be too judgmental in when thinking about my weight.

Imaginary Friend Bloghop: Angel

When I was younger, I was popular amongst my friends, imaginary that is.  There was Angel, many different characters on an abandoned island, and of course my pop band members.  Most of my friends didn't have names per se.  They were mainly individuals who listened to me when I was feeling down, or happy for me when I achieved a particular goal.  I even had an imaginary boyfriend at the age of 8.  Young yes, but don't judge me.

Let's talk about Angel.  How can I describe her?  She was everything that I wanted to be- extroverted with multiple talents and able to charm Hades from his underworld dungeon.  I, on the other hand, am introverted, with some talents and not charismatic at all.  Angel was a redhead with green eyes and even tempered. I am naturally a brunette with hazel eyes and at times the hotblooded Latina comes out.   Angel was someone who was open and care-free.  She was the life of the party, not a wall-flower like me.

As a pre-teen, I sometimes, I missed having an imaginary friend but like all good things, Angel came to an end.  I was singing in the shower, Angel was part of my band, and I looked up at the water.  It was like an epitome.  I realized that I was too old to have an imaginary friend.  None of my childhood friends had them, or at least did not admit to it.  That was the last song that Angel played backup singer for me.  It was a sad but liberating moment.  If I wanted Angel's characteristics then I had to change.

This is a bloghop with the theme of Imaginary Friends hosted by Annalisa Crawford.  Below are some of the other blogs participating in the bloghop.  :D
